NOTICE TO ALL PILOTS

QUEBEC AIRSHOW

JEAN-LESAGE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

9 -10 juin 2001

PROCEDURES

Because of the large volume of traffic expected in the Quebec City area for the airshow, procedures for VFR pilots have been established by Nav Canada. Pilots are to check NOTAM for the latest information.

High Density Traffic

Many types of aircraft, including high-speed jet aircraft, are expected in the area before, during and after the airshow. Demonstration flights, aerobatics and parachute descents will take place over or near the airport. The airshow area will be a 10NM radius centred on the airport and up to 15 000 feet ASL. Unless otherwise instructed by ATC, non-participating aircraft shall remain outside the area.

Visiting aircraft

Pilots are encouraged to arrive as early as possible to avoid expected delays due to the high volume of VFR aircraft arriving just prior to the airshow. Pilots shall file a VFR flight plan.

In order to minimize in-flight delays and to increase terminal radar capacity, transponder codes may be obtained before takeoff by calling Montreal Area Control Centre at (514) 633-3211, 1-800-633-1353 or by fax at (514) 633-2877, or at the Quebec Flight Information Centre at (418) 871-6760 or 1-800-463-4485, 30 minutes prior to departure.

All visiting aircraft should land before 1400Z (1000HAE) on June 9 and 10. No arrivals or departures will be allowed during the airshow.

Equipment

All aircraft operating within the Quebec Class D airspace must be equipped with a functioning two-way radio, permitting communications with Quebec tower on the appropriate frequencies.

Ultra-light aircraft and aircraft without functioning Mode C transponders, will not be permitted in the Quebec Class D airspace.

Parking

Limited parking will be available for visiting aircraft during the airshow. Prior arrangements should be made with a local fixed base operator (FBO) for pilots of other aircraft and those remaining overnight.

Arrivals

Before arrival, pilots should be familiar with the airport surroundings by consulting publications such as the Canada Flight Supplement (CFS).

Squawk the assigned transponder code. If not previously assigned, contact Quebec Flight Information Centre on frequency 126,7 or 123,55 Mhz, 10 minutes prior to entering Quebec TCA.

Prior to initial contact with ATC, pilots are to obtain ATIS on 134,6Mhz (English) or 128.3Mhz (French). Initial contact must be established at least 20 NM from the airport [30 NM, if you contact the Terminal Control Unit (TCU)], and must include the aircraft type, call sign, position and altitude. Pilots should acknowledge that the ATIS has been obtained. The control unit you should contact will depend on your altitude. If you are above 3000' ASL, contact Quebec TCU on 127,85Mhz; if you are at or below 3000' ASL, contact Quebec Control Tower on 120,3Mhz.

Quebec TCU or Control Tower will guide aircraft to one of the following entry points [refer to the Quebec VFR Terminal Procedures Chart of the Canada Flight Supplement (CFS)] :

  • Inbound from the west : Pont-Rouge check point,
  • Inbound from the north or from the east : Lac Beauport check point,
  • Inbound from the south : St-Lambert checkpoint.
Traffic conditions may require ATC to instruct aircraft to hold outside the control zone or to an assigned traffic pattern. Further instructions will then direct aircraft to runway 06 or 24.

Following initial contact, pilots are to monitor 127,85Mhz or 120,3Mhz until advised to change frequency for landing instructions.

Landing authorization will be given by call sign or by aircraft type and colour.

After landing, ground control will direct you to the parking area.

To reduce radio transmission clutter, flight plans can be closed at the reception area.

Training flights

Training flights will not be authorized during the following periods :

  • Thursday June 7, 2001 : 1400 to 1900Z (1000 to 1500DST)
  • Friday June 8, 2001 : 1400 to 0000Z (1000 to 2000DST)
  • Saturday June 9, 2001 : 1200 to 0000Z (0800 to 2000DST)
  • Sunday June 10, 2001 : 1200 to 0000Z (0800 to 2000DST)
  • Monday June 11, 2001 : 1200 to 1600Z (0800 to 1200DST)
Departures

Departure flight plans, if needed, must be filed at least 60 minutes before the proposed time of departure. Arrangements will be made for pilots wishing to file a flight plan upon their arrival at the crew reception area. After the airshow, anticipate departure restrictions until 2200Z (1800DST).
